Ram

The Ram Chalisa (श्री राम चालीसा) is a forty-verse devotional hymn in praise of Lord Rama — the seventh avatar of Vishnu and one of the most revered figures in Hindu tradition. He is known as Maryada Purushottam, the supreme upholder of Dharma, a title that reflects his life as the ideal son, husband, king, and warrior.

The Chalisa traces the arc of Rama's life and virtues — his birth in Ayodhya, his exile into the forest, his devotion to truth and righteousness even under profound personal loss, and his eventual victory over the demon king Ravana with the aid of Hanuman and the Vanara army. Reciting it is an act of alignment with those values — a prayer not just for blessings but for the strength to live rightly.

It is traditionally chanted during morning prayers and holds special significance on Ram Navami, the festival celebrating Rama's birth. Devotees also recite it on Sundays, the day associated with Rama worship in several regional traditions, and throughout the month of Chaitra, which culminates in Ram Navami.
