The Ganesh Chalisa is a 40-verse devotional hymn in praise of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. It is recited before any new undertaking to invoke his blessings for success and the removal of hindrances.
॥१॥Doha 1
जय गणपति सदगुण सदन, कविवर बदन कृपाल।
विघ्न हरण मंगल करण, जय जय गिरिजालाल॥
Jai Ganapati sadgun sadan, kavivar badan kripal.
Vighna haran mangal karan, jai jai Girija lal.
Glory to Ganapati, the abode of virtues, gracious poet-faced one! Remover of obstacles and creator of auspiciousness – glory to the beloved son of Girija (Parvati)!
जय हो गणपति! आप सद्गुणों के धाम, कृपालु और विघ्नहर्ता हैं। गिरिजा के लाल की जय हो।
॥२॥Doha 2
जय जय जय गणपति गणराजू। मंगल भरण करण शुभ काजू॥
Jai jai jai Ganapati Ganaraju. Mangal bharan karan shubh kaju.
Glory, glory, glory to Ganapati, king of the celestial host! You fill the world with auspiciousness and accomplish all sacred works.
जय, जय, जय गणपति गणराज! आप मंगलकारी हैं और शुभ कार्य संपन्न कराते हैं।
॥३॥Chaupai 1
जय गजबदन सदन सुखदाता। विश्व-विनायक बुद्धि-विधाता॥
Jai gajbadan sadan sukhdaata. Vishva-vinayak buddhi-vidhata.
Glory to the elephant-faced one, the abode of happiness, bestower of joy! You are the universal guide and the granter of wisdom.
जय हो गजानन! सुख के धाम, विश्व के विनायक और बुद्धि के दाता।
॥४॥Chaupai 2
वक्र तुण्ड शुचि शुण्ड सुहावन। तिलक त्रिपुण्ड भाल मन भावन॥
Vakra tund shuchi shund suhavan. Tilak tripund bhal man bhavan.
With your curved trunk and beautiful pure proboscis, with the triple-lined mark on your forehead – your form is pleasing to the mind.
वक्र सूंड और पवित्र शुंड सुंदर लगती है। माथे पर तिलक और त्रिपुंड मन को भाते हैं।
॥५॥Chaupai 3
राजत मणि मुक्ताहल भूषण। कण्ठ माल विद्यमान विशेषण॥
Rajat mani muktahal bhushan. Kanth maal vidyaman vishishan.
Sparkling gems and pearl ornaments adorn you. A special garland shines on your neck.
मणियाँ और मोतियों के आभूषण सुशोभित हैं। कंठ में विशेष माला विद्यमान है।
॥६॥Chaupai 4
अंधकार तुम जोत जगावो। विघ्न हटाकर सुख उपजावो॥
Andhkar tum jot jagavo. Vighn hataakar sukh upajavo.
You kindle the lamp in the darkness and remove all obstacles to create happiness.
आप अंधेरे में ज्योति जगाते हैं। विघ्न हटाकर सुख उत्पन्न करते हैं।

विद्यार्थी तुम्हरो ध्यान धरावें। उत्तम बुद्धि विद्या फल पावें॥
