Durga

Jai Ambe Gauri (जय अम्बे गौरी) is one of the most beloved aartis dedicated to Maa Ambe — a name for Goddess Durga that combines her ferocity and her maternal grace. Gauri refers to her fair, luminous form, in contrast to the dark, fierce Kali — together they represent the full spectrum of the Divine Mother's nature.

The aarti describes her divine form and weapons, and recounts her victories over the demons Mahishasura, Shumbha, and Nishumbha — battles that in the devotional tradition represent the destruction of ego, greed, and pride within the devotee rather than merely mythological events.

It is traditionally sung at the conclusion of evening prayers and with particular fervour during Navratri, the nine-night festival dedicated to the Divine Mother. Reciting it is believed to invoke her protection and bring peace and prosperity to the household.
