Om Jai Shiv Omkara is the quintessential Shiva aarti, sung in temples across India during evening prayers. It is particularly popular on Mondays and throughout the Shravan month.
॥१॥Verse 1
ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा, स्वामी जय शिव ओंकारा।
ब्रह्मा विष्णु सदाशिव, अर्धांगी धारा॥
ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा॥
Om jai Shiv Omkara, swami jai Shiv Omkara.
Brahma Vishnu Sadashiv, ardhanghi dhara.
Om jai Shiv Omkara.
Om, glory to Shiva, the embodiment of Om! Brahma, Vishnu and Sadashiva – you hold all three in you, and you hold your consort (Shakti) as your other half. Glory to Shiva Omkara!
ॐ जय हो शिव ओंकारा! ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और सदाशिव आपमें समाहित हैं और आप अर्धनारीश्वर हैं।
॥२॥Verse 2
एकानन चतुरानन पञ्चानन राजे।
हंसासन गरुड़ासन वृषवाहन साजे॥
ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा॥
Ekanan chaturanan panchanan raje.
Hansasan garudasan vrishavahan saje.
Om jai Shiv Omkara.
One-faced (Vishnu), four-faced (Brahma), five-faced (Shiva) – all reign gloriously. Seated on the swan, the eagle, and the bull – all are gloriously adorned. Glory to Shiva Omkara!
एकमुख, चतुर्मुख और पंचमुख – सब शोभायमान हैं। हंस, गरुड़ और वृषभ – सब वाहनों पर सुशोभित हैं।
॥३॥Verse 3
दो भुज चार चतुर्भुज दसभुज अति सोहे।
त्रिगुण रूप निरखते त्रिभुवन जन मोहे॥
ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा॥
Do bhuj char chaturbhuj dasbhuj ati sohe.
Trigun roop nirakhte tribhuvan jan mohe.
Om jai Shiv Omkara.
Two-armed, four-armed, ten-armed forms shine gloriously. Beholding the tri-guna forms, the people of all three worlds are enchanted. Glory to Shiva Omkara!
दो, चार और दस भुजाओं वाले रूप अत्यंत सुंदर लगते हैं। त्रिगुणमय रूप को देखकर तीनों लोकों के लोग मोहित हो जाते हैं।
॥४॥Verse 4
अक्षमाला बनमाला रुण्डमाला धारी।
चन्दन मृगमद सोहे भाले शशिधारी॥
ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा॥
Akshamala vanmala rundmala dhari.
Chandan mrigmad sohe bhale shashidhari.
Om jai Shiv Omkara.
You wear a rosary of beads, a garland of forest flowers, and a garland of skulls. Sandalwood paste and musk adorn you, and on your forehead the crescent moon shines. Glory to Shiva Omkara!
आप अक्षमाला, वनमाला और मुंडमाला धारण करते हैं। ललाट पर चंदन, मृगमद और चंद्रमा सुशोभित हैं।
॥५॥Verse 5
श्वेताम्बर पीताम्बर बाघम्बर अंगे।
सनकादिक गरुणादिक भूतादिक संगे॥
ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा॥
Shvetambar pitambar baghambr ange.
Sanakadik garunadik bhutadik sange.
Om jai Shiv Omkara.
You wear white, yellow and tiger-skin on your body. You are accompanied by sages like Sanaka, by Garuda's clan, and by the hosts of spirits. Glory to Shiva Omkara!
आपके अंग पर श्वेत, पीत और बाघम्बर वस्त्र हैं। आपके साथ सनकादि, गरुणादि और भूतगण रहते हैं।
॥६॥Verse 6
कर मध्ये कमंडल चक्र त्रिशूलधारी।
जगकर्ता जगभर्ता जगसंहारकारी॥
ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा॥
Kar madhye kamandal chakra trishuldhari.
Jagakarta jagabharta jagasanharakari.
Om jai Shiv Omkara.
In your hands you hold a water pot, a discus, and a trident. You are the creator, sustainer, and destroyer of the universe. Glory to Shiva Omkara!
हाथों में कमंडल, चक्र और त्रिशूल धारण करते हैं। आप जगत के कर्ता, भर्ता और संहारकर्ता हैं।
॥७॥Verse 7
ब्रह्मा विष्णु सदाशिव जानत अविवेका।
प्रणवाक्षर के मध्ये ये तीनों एका॥
ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा॥
Brahma Vishnu Sadashiv janat aviveka.
Pranvakshar ke madhye ye teenon eka.
Om jai Shiv Omkara.
Without discrimination (wisdom) one fails to understand that Brahma, Vishnu and Sadashiva are one. Within the sacred syllable Om (Pranava), these three are truly one. Glory to Shiva Omkara!
बिना विवेक के यह नहीं जाना जाता कि ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और सदाशिव एक ही हैं। प्रणव (ॐ) अक्षर में ये तीनों एकरूप हैं।
॥८॥Verse 8
त्रिगुण स्वामी की आरती जो कोई नर गावे।
कहत शिवानन्द स्वामी मनवान्छित फल पावे॥
ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा, स्वामी जय शिव ओंकारा।
ब्रह्मा विष्णु सदाशिव अर्धांगी धारा॥
Trigun swami ki aarti jo koi nar gave.
Kahat Shivanand Swami manvanchhit phal pave.
Om jai Shiv Omkara, swami jai Shiv Omkara.
Brahma Vishnu Sadashiv, ardhanghi dhara.
Whoever sings this aarti of the three-qualities lord will attain the fruits of their heart's desire, says Swami Shivananda. Om, glory to Shiva, the embodiment of Om! Brahma, Vishnu and Sadashiva, you hold your consort as your other half.
