Lahū (لہو) means blood in Persian and Urdu. It is a powerful poetic image used to convey extreme grief — tears turning to blood symbolise suffering beyond ordinary human endurance. This hyperbolic device (mubālagha) is central to classical Urdu and Persian poetry to express the depth of a lover's anguish.
