Shree Ram Chandra Kripalu Bhajman (श्री रामचन्द्र कृपालु
भजमन) is a celebrated stuti — a hymn of praise — dedicated to Lord Rama, composed
by the 16th-century saint-poet Goswami Tulsidas and found in his devotional
collection Vinaya Patrika. Written in the Harigitika meter, it is
distinguished by its lilting, melodic rhythm and the intimacy with which it
describes Rama's divine form and gentle nature.
The hymn opens with an invocation of Rama as kripalu — the merciful
one — and proceeds to paint a portrait of his physical beauty and virtue: his dark
complexion, his lotus eyes, his grace and composure. This is not the warrior Rama
of the battlefield but the beloved Rama of the devotee's heart — approachable,
tender, and present.
It is traditionally sung at the conclusion of Ramayana recitations and during
evening prayers, and is among the most musically rendered of all Ram stutis —
familiar to devotees through countless classical and devotional recordings. Its
accessibility across musical traditions has made it one of the most widely
recognized prayers in the Ram bhakti canon.
॥१॥Verse 1
श्रीरामचन्द्र कृपालु भजु मन हरण भवभय दारुणम्।
नवकंज लोचन, कंज मुख, कर कंज, पद कंजारुणम्॥
Shri Rāmachandra kripālu bhaju man harana bhava-bhaya dārunam |
Nava-kanja lochana, kanja mukha, kara kanja, pada kanjārunam ||
O my mind! Worship the merciful Shri Ramachandra, who removes the agonizing fear of the world (the cycle of birth and death). His eyes are like newly bloomed lotuses, His face is like a lotus, His hands are like lotuses, and His feet are like the crimson lotus.
हे मन! कृपालु श्रीरामचन्द्रजी का भजन कर, जो संसार के जन्म-मरण रूपी दारुण भय को दूर करने वाले हैं। जिनके नेत्र नए खिले हुए कमल के समान हैं, मुख कमल के समान है, हाथ कमल के समान हैं और चरण भी लाल कमल के समान हैं।
॥२॥Verse 2
कंदर्प अगणित अमित छवि, नवनील नीरद सुन्दरम्।
पट पीत मानहु तड़ित रुचि शुचि, नौमि जनक सुतावरम्॥
His beauty exceeds that of countless Cupids. His body is as beautiful as a fresh blue water-laden cloud. His yellow garments are pure and radiant, shimmering like lightning. I bow to the husband of Janaka’s daughter (Sita).
जिनकी छवि अगणित कामदेवों से भी बढ़कर है, जिनका शरीर नवीन नील-मेघ के समान सुंदर है। जिनके पीतांबर बिजली के समान चमक रहे हैं, ऐसे पवित्र जानकीनाथ (श्रीराम) को मैं नमस्कार करता हूँ।
Worship the friend of the poor, the sun of the solar dynasty, and the destroyer of the lineage of demons. He is the joy of the Raghu clan, the source of bliss, the moon of Kosala, and the beloved son of Dasharatha.
हे मन! उन श्रीराम का भजन कर जो दीनों के बंधु, सूर्यवंश के स्वामी और दानव-दैत्यों के वंश का नाश करने वाले हैं। जो रघुकुल को आनंद देने वाले, आनंद के स्रोत, कोशल देश के चंद्रमा और दशरथ के पुत्र हैं।
He wears a crown on His head, beautiful earrings in His ears, and a lovely tilak on His forehead. His limbs are adorned with magnificent ornaments. His arms extend to His knees, and He holds a bow and arrow, having conquered the demons Khara and Dushana in battle.
जिनके सिर पर मुकुट, कानों में कुंडल, माथे पर सुंदर तिलक और अंगों पर सुंदर आभूषण सुशोभित हैं। जिनकी भुजाएँ घुटनों तक लंबी हैं, जो धनुष-बाण धारण किए हुए हैं और जिन्होंने संग्राम में खर-दूषण को जीत लिया है।
॥५॥Verse 5
इति वदति तुलसीदास शंकर शेष मुनि मन रंजनम्।
मम हृदय कंज निवास कुरु, कामादि खल दल गंजनम्॥
Iti vadati tulsidāsa shankara shesha muni mana ranjanam |
Mama hridaya kanja nivāsa kuru, kāmādi khala dala ganjanam ||
Thus says Tulsidas: O Lord, the delighter of the minds of Shiva, Sheshanaga, and the sages! Please reside in the lotus of my heart and destroy the wicked assembly of lust, anger, and ego.
तुलसीदास कहते हैं कि जो शिव, शेषनाग और मुनियों के मन को प्रसन्न करने वाले हैं, वे श्री रघुनाथजी काम, क्रोध आदि शत्रुओं की सेना का नाश करने वाले हैं। वे मेरे हृदय रूपी कमल में सदा निवास करें।
॥६॥Doha
मनु जाहिं राचेउ मिलिहि सो बरु सहज सुन्दर सांवरो।
करुना निधान सुजान सीलु सनेहु जानत रावरो॥
एही भांति गौरी असीस सुनि सिय सहित हिय हरषीं अली।
तुलसी भवानिहि पूजि पुनि पुनि मुदित मन मन्दिर चली॥
Manu jāhin rācheu milihi so baru sahaja sundara sānvaro |
Karunā nidhāna sujāna seelu sanehu jānata rāvaro ||
Ehi bhānti gauri aseesa suni siya sahita hiya harasheen alee |
Tulasi bhavānihi pooji puni puni mudita mana mandira chalee ||
You shall find the naturally beautiful dark-complexioned groom (Rama) in whom your heart is enamored. The Treasure-house of Compassion is all-knowing and recognizes your virtue and love. Hearing Gauri's blessing, Sita and her friends were filled with joy. Tulsidas says, having worshipped Bhavani repeatedly, Sita returned to the palace with a delighted heart.
जिसमें तुम्हारा मन अनुरक्त हो गया है, वही स्वभाव से सुंदर सांवला वर तुम्हें मिलेगा। वह करुणा का खजाना और सब जानने वाला है, वह तुम्हारे शील और स्नेह को जानता है। इस प्रकार श्री गौरीजी का आशीर्वाद सुनकर सीताजी अपनी सखियों सहित हृदय में हर्षित हुईं। भवानीजी को बार-बार पूजकर सीताजी प्रसन्न मन से महल की ओर चलीं।
